Principal's Message

As the new principal of Rea Elementary School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2017-2018 school  year.  I have joined the wonderful Rea Elementary community that has a great deal of which to be proud.

Last year was a banner year for Rea!  We completed our first year as an AVID school.  AVID or Advancement Via Individual Determination serves over 400,000 students, at over 4,500 schools throughout North America and abroad.  Through AVID, we prepare students for success in a global society, improve students’ critical thinking, reading, and writing abilities, and create a culture of college and career readiness.  The AVID instructional program is a means to support our “Capable, Talented, and Intelligent SHARKS who are going to college.”

We remain committed to all students learning at high levels.  Last year we implemented a model reading program in grades K-3, where teams of grade level teachers and other additional staff committed to doing whatever it takes to ensure our students are strong readers.  Rea staff recognized tremendous growth among our primary grade students through this model.  We will continue to develop systems to respond to all learners and ensure that each child is learning at their highest level.

For all of our students, join me in a commitment to make reading a priority.  Leaders are readers.  Ideally, children will read for 25 to 30 minutes every day, 365 days per year, and fall in love with reading. Being able to read and comprehend at grade level or above is vital for success in school and in life.

Teachers at Rea will be using new adoptions for math, Bridges, and English Arts, Wonders.  These materials were selected by teachers at Rea and by teachers from throughout the district, because the curriculum is high quality, is aligned to the Common Core standards, and prepares our students for college and career.

In the spirit of the Rea Sharks, we will continue to achieve great things collectively as a school and support each child to learn at high levels.

On the right are pictures of our family, Dr. Cox, Mrs. Cox, Cameron(8) and Kibo(5) on one of our favorite trips.  We drove to the Oregon California border and spent one month driving home.  We borrowed a friend's RV.  What a blast!
